Culture in Prague
Prague has always been one of the most attractive towns for European musicians. It has witnessed the opening nights of many of Mozarts and Glucks operas and also Mahlers VIIth Symphony. Carl Maria Weber was the director of the Prague Estates Theatre. Ludwig van Beethoven, Hector Berlioz, Niccolai Paganini, Clara Schumann, Franz Liszt, Richard Wagner and Peter Ilych Tchaikovsky all performed here.
The National Theatre. The centre of Czech art-theatre and the countrys leading theatre, was founded in 1868, and was built in New Renaissance style from 1881 to 1883. Opera, ballet and drama performances.
The Estates Theatre. The oldest theatre in Prague, where Mozarts Don Giovanni opera was first performed in 1787, was the second theatre in Europe to be built in the Classical style. Opera, ballet, dramatic performances with simultaneous English translations.
The State Opera. A new Renaissance building, currently renowned for its classical opera and ballet performances. The theatre boasts a magnificent artistic tradition.
Black Theatre Shows. Prague has a number of Black Theatres Shows which offer unique performances of this exclusive Czech theatrical genre.
